DAVID PECHEFSKY HAS A FIX FOR
CITY COUNCIL IN NY TIMES OP-ED
In a January 22, 2010 op-ed in the New York Times, Green candidate David Pechefsky
suggests three ways to fix a City Council, which is “hardly more
democratic than a high school student council, where the principal
calls the shots.” Click here to read it!
"Ultimately,
all City Council decisions are made by the speaker and the speaker’s
staff. The speaker controls which members get to sit on which
committees and who heads those committees, what legislation comes up
for a vote, the hiring and firing of the 250-plus central staff and the
money that members get to dole out to their districts."
GPNYC COMMITTEE:
JOIN US ON FACEBOOK!
Late last year, Greens
from around the city elected representatives from each borough to serve
on the Green Party New York City
Committee. Our purpose is to strengthen and grow the Green Party in New York City by
addressing city-wide Green
matters, such as candidates for city-wide office; assist NYC Green locals; and make the
Green Party a
greater presence in the body politic of NYC. So far, we
have created new GPNYC
literature, started a speaker program at area colleges, and
launched a Facebook page which you can join by
